Va. College Students Targeted in Robberies, Attacks

September 24, 2010

College students across Virginia are being advised to take precautions amid a rash of robberies and assaults both on and off campus.

"The Richmond Times-Dispatch" reports that three students were assaulted on the University of Richmond campus in one hour over Labor Day. A break-in at a campus apartment and a reported sexual assault also are being investigated.

Three students at Longwood University in Farmville were assaulted or robbed in the past month. University and town officials held a campus forum this week to discuss safety issues.

Several students at Virginia Commonwealth University and the College of William and Mary also have been assaulted or robbed.

Police say most of the incidents are crimes of opportunity.
