Va. Woman Charged with Abandoning Newborn

September 27, 2010

Hampton police have arrested a woman after a newborn girl was found abandoned inside a trash bag.

The Virginia-Pilot reported 30-year-old Kimberly Vick Fisher of Hampton was charged with attempted murder Saturday. She is being held in the Hampton City Jail.

Police say the baby was found Friday in a wooded area. Her umbilical cord was still attached. The newspaper says the infant didn't appear to have life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

It wasn't immediately known whether Fisher had an attorney. A telephone call to the jail went unanswered Sunday night.
