2 suspicious fires at Va. apartment complex
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) - The Newport News Fire Marshal's Office is investigating two suspicious fires at an apartment complex.
Fire department Battalion Chief J. Douglas Carper says both fires began in vacant apartments.
The first fire was reported at 8:40 p.m. Saturday. One firefighter was treated at the scene for a minor injury. No other apartments were damaged.
The second fire was reported at 7:48 a.m. Sunday in a different building. Carper says the two-story building sustained extensive damage and four apartments were condemned. The fire displaced six adult residents. No injuries were reported.
