The Commonwealth is experiencing a shortage of acorns this season for several reasons.
The Virginia Department of Forestry says one of those reasons is the late spring freeze and high humidity. Therefore, many animals have lost an important part of their diet as we head into winter.
The acorn shortage is statewide, and biologists say the cicadas were not a factor.
