ITT Announces Layoffs at Roanoke Defense Plant

April 1, 2010

ITT Corp. says it's laying off fewer than 45 workers in Roanoke County.

Spokesman Steve Brecken says the job cuts announced Wednesday affect salaried workers at ITT Night Vision. Brecken says the layoffs are tied to the merger of its night vision and space systems divisions in January.

At the time, Brecken said some of ITT Night Vision's 1,500 employees might lose their jobs because of overlapping skills, among other things.

The Roanoke operation makes night vision goggles, among other things.
