Coast Guard Rescues Va. Fisherman

April 2, 2010

The Coast Guard has rescued a man whose fishing boat hit a submerged object and started sinking near Virginia Beach.

Noah Agner launched a life raft and made a distress call at 7:35 a.m. Friday reporting the sinking boat. The Coast Guard says a helicopter rescue crew found Agner in the raft. He was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

The accident occurred about 15 miles south of Rudee Inlet.

The Coast Guard is investigating to determine whether the sunken boat is a navigation hazard and whether there is an environmental threat because of fuel and oil.
