More than 2 million Virginians have filed state tax returns, with the vast majority filing electronically.
With just over one month to file, 1.7 million people have filed electronically, which represents 85 percent of all individual filings.
The Department of Taxation said taxes filed online take about one week to process, while paper returns take 30 days.
The Virginia tax filing deadline this year is May 3. The normal deadline is May 1 but it falls on a Saturday this year.
