A teenager who was allowed to leave jail with his mother for a dentist appointment is one of three people accused of beating a 16-year-old to death in Fairfax County.
The body of Christian Perez of Lorton was found in a park last month.
One of the three teenagers arrested in the killing had been in jail on malicious wounding charges when he was allowed to leave for the dentist appointment in November. He never came back.
Authorities say he and the other two are members of MS-13 and used a baseball bat to smash open the head of Perez, who allegedly belonged to a rival gang.
Robert A. Bermingham, director of court services for the Fairfax juvenile court, says the teenager's release was allowed at the time, but the policy has since been changed.
