All Virginia highway rest areas that were closed last year due to funding cuts have been reopened. Gov. Bob McDonnell says the final seven rest areas were back in business Wednesday.
McDonnell's predecessor, Tim Kaine, ordered 19 rest areas and welcome centers closed last July, but McDonnell reversed that and hoped all would reopen by April 15.
McDonnell said reopening the facilities was important to tourism and economic development.
