Vick's Uncle Jailed for Role in Va. Heroin Ring

April 22, 2010

Michael Vick's 57-year-old uncle has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for his role in a heroin ring in southeastern Virginia.

The government says Joseph Vick Jr. was sentenced Wednesday in Newport News on a charge of distributing 100 grams of the drug. He entered his plea in January.

Prosecutors say Vick was a midlevel distributor for a heroin ring that sold the drug in Newport News, Hampton, Williamsburg and a number of other communities along the peninsula of the Chesapeake Bay.

Federal prosecutors previously confirmed that Vick is the uncle of Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick. Joseph Vick was among more than 20 suspects who were indicted in December.
