Va. Man Injured in Apparent Pipe Bomb Explosion

April 22, 2010

Police say a Surry County man suffered life-threatening injuries when a homemade device exploded.

Virginia State Police spokeswoman Sgt. Michelle Cotten says victim Peter Bohlander apparently was building a pipe bomb that went off about 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Cotten says Bohlander was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Most of his injuries were to his torso. A welding mask apparently shielded his face.

Bohlander was listed in critical condition Tuesday evening.
