Va. Officials Warn About Rabid Fox in Northern Virginia

April 22, 2010

Officials are looking for people who might have been exposed to a rabid, three-legged gray fox near Collinsville.

The state Department of Health says the animal was killed Sunday and later tested positive for the deadly disease. The agency said Wednesday that at an adult and two children were attacked by three-legged fox. It's looking for anyone else who might have been injured.

The agency says anyone scratched or bitten by a three-legged fox in the area should call 276 638-2311 immediately. Calls also can be made to Animal Control at 276 638-8751.

Rabies is caused by a virus and is fatal once symptoms develop.
