Va. Call Center Plans to Hire 250 New Employees

April 29, 2010

Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling says Martinsville is getting a new call center and 250 jobs.

Bolling announced Wednesday that Faneuil Inc. is investing $2.4 million to set up the operation. The Hampton-based company says workers will provide customer support for Dominion Virginia Power.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says Martinsvilles jobless rate reached 22 percent in March, compared with 7.6 percent for all of Virginia. The Martinsville area has been hit hard by the closing of a furniture plant jointly operated by American of Martinsville and Barcalounger.

Faneuil Chief Executive Anna Van Buren says the company plans to start hiring immediately and hold its first training class in June. Starting pay is $9.50 an hour.
