Authorities in Salem say an 11-year-old boy has been charged with aggravated sexual assault on two preteen female middle school classmates.
The boy was taken into custody at his home Sunday and was being held at Roanoke Detention Center as of Tuesday afternoon.
Salem Police Lt. Mike Green says the charges stem from complaints from two classmates who reported being victims of groping and frotteurism. That occurs when someone rubs their body against another person without their consent.
Green says aggravated sexual assault is considered a felony if a victim is younger than 13, regardless of the age of the suspect. A trial date is not yet available.
