Va. First Lady Takes Business Owners on Tour of Local Wineries

May 14, 2010

Virginia First Lady Maureen McDonnell took business owners on a tour of vineyards in the Charlottesville area Friday. The tour was designed to encourage business owners to increase the sale of Virginia wine.

The tour included Jefferson Vineyards of Charlottesville, Veritas Vineyards of Afton and White Hall Vineyards of Crozet.

Friday's tour was the first of a series of wine tours she will lead as a part of an initiative that includes economic development. One focus of the initiative is on the state wine, film and tourism industries.

"That's what I'd like to do with my platform is expose and highlight those things that are in Virginia that really need the exposure," said First Lady McDonnell.
