Chesapeake Police Officer Faces Felony Charge

May 18, 2010

A Chesapeake police officer is on unpaid administrative leave following his arrest on a felony child-related charge.

The police department says 31-year-old Michael Boyd was charged Monday with using communications systems to facilitate certain offenses involving children. The investigation began earlier this month after police received a complaint.

Boyd's father, John Boyd, says the allegation is "ridiculous." John Boyd says his son is a loving father of three children and "a good guy."

Police department spokeswoman Dorienne Boykin says Boyd is a patrol officer.

The police department wouldn't release any other information.
