Va. School for Deaf and Blind Plans New Building

May 20, 2010

The Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind is preparing to begin construction of a new consolidated middle and high school.

School officials held a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday for the new Education Building on the Staunton campus. A ribbon cutting ceremony for the renovated Stuart Building followed the groundbreaking. Built in 1914, the Stuart Building will serve as a media and student center.

The projects are part of the General Assembly's consolidation of the Staunton school with one in Hampton on the Staunton campus. The consolidation includes $71.3 million worth of construction and renovation projects.

A new dorm is under construction and a new construction maintenance building has been completed.
