Richmond Couple Sentenced in Bank Card Scam

May 27, 2010

A Richmond couple will serve prison time for using stolen debit and credit cards for purchases and cash withdrawals.

Forty-four-year-old Kenneth O. Morris was sentenced Wednesday to four years in federal prison. Bernice R. Morris was sentenced to three years. The couple pleaded guilty in February to conspiracy to commit bank fraud and aggravated identity theft.

Authorities say Kenneth Morris stole wallets at unsecured office complexes. His wife called victims posing as a bank employee, told victims there was suspicious activity on their cards and persuaded
them to provide their personal identification numbers. Her husband
then used the stolen cards at ATMs or to make purchases.
