Health Officials say Lyme Disease Spreading in Virginia

June 4, 2010

Health officials say Lyme disease is spreading in Virginia but they're not sure why.

Cases of the tick-borne disease in the state have topped 900 since 2007, when the number nearly tripled to 945. There were 909 cases reported in 2009.

Dr. Keri Hall with the Virginia Department of Health says it's likely that not all cases are reported and the number could be higher.

Lyme disease mostly had been concentrated in northern Virginia. But health officials say the disease is spreading west and south.
