Police: Off-duty Md. Trooper Shot, Killed

June 11, 2010

Police are searching for a man they say shot and killed an off-duty Maryland state trooper who was working security at a Prince George's County restaurant.

County police Officer Henry Tippett says Trooper Wesley Brown escorted a disorderly customer from the Applebee's on Donnell Drive on Thursday evening. Tippett says when Brown was leaving the restaurant around 12:40 a.m. Friday, the customer shot him in the parking lot.

He says 24-year-old Brown was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

State police Superintendent Col. Terrence Sheridan says Brown's death has devastated the trooper's police and personal family.

Gov. Martin O'Malley says for now, police must focus on finding the shooter. Tippett says officers were searching all cars traveling through the area overnight.
