A forensic engineering firm says a structural issue caused the Blacksburg High School gym roof to collapse in February.
Forcon International says in a preliminary report that the collapse resulted from a truss seat failure. The firm says it's awaiting results of a metallurgical analysis to determine what caused the truss seat to fail.
Montgomery County Public Schools released the preliminary report Friday.
According to the report, the gym floor and walls can remain in place if repairs are made.
No one was injured when the roof collapsed following weeks of record snow. Forcon says the snow wasn't a factor.
Students have attended evening classes at Blacksburg Middle School since collapse.
