Virginia State Police are investigating a tractor trailer accident that shut down Interstate 81 at mile marker 247 in Rockingham County for hours Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
All lanes on north and south bounds were shut down due to an injury wreck around 10:30 Tuesday night. It took several hours for all lanes to re-open.
At one point, the Virginia Department of Transportation estimated the backup to be two miles.
State Police say there is at least one injury. One person was flown to the University of Virginia Medical Center.
