Military Parachutist Hurt in Va. Beach Incident

June 16, 2010

One paratrooper was injured after falling from a tree during a training exercise at the Little Creek-Fort Story military base.

Virginia Beach emergency medical services division chief Bruce Nedelka says rescue officials were called to a remote area of the joint military base Tuesday morning in response to five parachutists stuck in trees.

Nedelka says one parachutist had fallen to the ground, and was taken to a local hospital after suffering non-life threatening injuries. He says the others weren't injured.

Also known as Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, the base is a consolidated operation of the Navy's Little Creek Amphibious Base and the Army's Fort Story.
