Va. Uses Civil War Anniversary to Promote Wineries

June 18, 2010

A Virginia partnership is capitalizing on the Civil War's 150th anniversary to promote the commonwealth's wineries and other tourism destinations.

The Commonwealth Transportation Board awarded $3.5 million in grants Thursday to fund the project.

The Virginia Department of Transportation says the project includes multimedia information terminals at welcome centers, a battlefield application for the iPhone and new gateway signs.

Partnership members include VDOT, the Virginia Tourism Corporation, the Virginia Wine Board, the Virginia Sesquicentennial of the American Civil War Commission, Virginia Civil War Trails and the Civil War Preservation Trust.
