Governorn Bob McDonnell and more than 20 family members are visiting the land of his ancestors in Ireland.
McDonnell and family planned to leave Saturday for a 10-day vacation, where they will travel to Dublin and Galway and visit Trinity College, the Guinness Storehouse and the Cliffs of Moher, among other Irish landmarks.
It will be McDonnell's first family vacation since taking office in January.
McDonnell's grandfather came to American from Ireland. When McDonnell took the oath of office Jan. 16 he placed his hand on a Latin Vulgate Bible that was presented to his great-grandparents in Ireland on their wedding day in 1876.
McDonnell's spokesman says he plans to keep in touch while away. The governor will return to work July 7.
