Fatal Va. Police Shooting Justified by Court

June 30, 2010

A prosecutor says law enforcement officers followed proper procedures when they fatally shot a Pagan's Motorcycle Club member during a raid in Dinwiddie County.

Dinwiddie Commonwealth's Attorney Lisa Caruso said Tuesday that the fatal shooting of 45-year-old James M. Hicks Jr. was justified. Authorities say Hicks was shot multiple times after he twice refused to drop a shotgun.

According to a search warrant, federal agents were seeking records of the Pagan's local chapter when they searched Hicks' home on Oct. 6, 2009.
