FAA Investigates Fatal Va. Plane Crash

July 6,2010

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating a single-engine plane crash near the Chesapeake airport that killed the pilot.

State police Sgt. Lawrence Brown says the Cessna 172 Skyhawk was en route to the airport when it crashed Monday afternoon about 5 miles south of the airport. Brown says the pilot reported having engine trouble before the crash. He was the only person aboard the airplane.

Troopers found the airplane in a cornfield. The pilot was pronounced dead at the scene. He wasn't identified pending notification of relatives.
