Virginia Beach Soldier Killed in Afghanistan

The Department of Defense announced Wednesday the death of a Virginia soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Staff Sgt. Christopher F. Cabacoy, 30, of Virginia Beach, Va., was killed on July 5 in Kandahar, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device.

Pfc. Edwin C. Wood, 18, of Omaha, Neb., was also killed in the attack.

Sgt. Cabacoy and Pfc. Wood were assigned to 1st Squadron, 71st Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, N.Y.
