Police Officers Struck by Drunk Driver

A Virginia State Trooper and Blackstone Police Department Officer were both struck Wednesday evening as they completed their investigation into an earlier crash.

Virginia State Police Trooper A. D. Lester was called to the scene on Route 460 business near Route 750 Military Road around 10pm Wednesday to investigate a motorcycle crash. At approximately 10:53pm, as Lester was completing his investigation while being assisted by Officer L. F. Scott, both were struck by a vehicle as they sat inside their marked patrol vehicles.

A 2004 Ford Mustang was traveling eastbound Route 460 when the driver struck the marked Blackstone Police Department cruiser causing it to strike the marked Virginia State Police cruiser.

Both the trooper and officer were transported by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center with minor injuries. Both have since been released.

The driver of the Mustang, 30-year-old Susan G. Keen, was not injured in the crash and was arrested for driving under the influence. Keen was heading home at the time of the crash which remains under investigation at this time.

Keen has been released from jail on a $2,500 unsecured bond pending her court date.
