July 9, 2010

A Grayson County senior social worker and a companion provider face federal charges of defrauding two elderly patients.

Thirty-six-year-old Jennifer Edward Hall and 46-year-old Bernard Dale Satterfield, both of Galax, were indicted Thursday on charges of conspiracy to commit access device fraud and access device fraud.

Hall also is charged with bank fraud.

The indictment charges that Hall and Satterfield wrote checks from one patient's bank account to themselves or to cash. They also are accused of using the patient's ATM card to withdraw cash. Hall also is charged with fraudulently negotiating checks to withdraw money from the second patient's bank account.

U.S. Attorney Timothy J. Heaphy says the alleged fraud cost the victims a total $34,853.
