Boa Constrictor on the Loose in Danville

July 12, 2010

The Danville Humane Society's director says residents should keep pets indoors until a boa constrictor that escaped is retrieved.

Danville police say the 5-foot-long snake escaped Wednesday, July 7 from its owner's car. Boa constrictors aren't poisonous. The snakes constrict and suffocate their prey.

Danville Humane Society director Paulette Dean says boa constrictors can kill small dogs and kittens. Children also could be at risk.
