Dominion Takes Reactor Off Line Due to Water Leak

July 12, 2010

One reactor at Dominion Virginia Power's Surry power plant is off line because of a water pipe leak.

Dominion shut down the Surry 2 unit Sunday night. The utility wouldn't say Monday when the reactor will be returned to service.

The Surry 1 unit continues to operate.

Dominion says Surry 2's operators took the plant off line because the pinhole leak in the water pipe couldn't be repaired in 24 hours.

Water from the James River is carried through the pipe to the Surry plant's steam condenser.
