A man arrested in Shenandoah County for smuggling illegal immigrants has been sentenced to two years in prison.
U.S. District Judge Samuel Wilson on Wednesday sentenced 34-year-old Jose Hernandez Juarez, of Mesa, Arizona, on one count of bringing in and harboring aliens.
State police pulled over Juarez April 1 on Interstate 81 in Mt. Jackson. Three illegal immigrants he'd picked up in Arizona were in the van with him, according to court records. Hernandez said he already had dropped off others in three other southeast states.
Juarez, a Mexican national, was ordered to forfeit the $5,027 police found with him, and will be deported after his prison term.
