A 30-year-old Chesapeake man has been sentenced to more than seven years in federal prison for his role as leader of a local heroin trafficking ring.
The U.S. Attorney's office says Thomas Hassell admitted to transporting heroin from New York to Virginia for further distribution. He entered a guilty plea in April and was sentenced Monday.
Hassell also was sentenced to three years of supervised release after his prison term.
