Man Gets 83 Years for role in Va. Abduction, Killing

July 23, 2010

A man will spend 83 years in prison for his role in a kidnapping and shooting that ended in a highway shootout with police.

Thirty-two-year-old Dedrion A. Short was convicted in March on charges of murder, abduction, malicious wounding of a police officer and three firearms offenses. He was sentenced Thursday in Chesapeake Circuit Court.

The charges stemmed from the abduction and fatal shooting of 29-year-old Tione Vincent on June 1, 2009. Police say Vincent was abducted in Norfolk by armed men in a van. Police found Vincent dead in the back of the van.

Twenty-one-year-old co-defendant Willie D. Simmons is awaiting sentencing on murder, abduction and firearms charges.
