Va. Residents Eager for Bird Cannon Debut

July 26, 2010

The town of Bridgewater has had a bird problem for some time, but the solution to drive the birds away took a little longer to arrive than planned.

Starting this week, birds beware. The so-called "bird cannon" is here.

The cannon shoots something like a firecracker into the air to drive the swarms of starlings away. It also emits an irritating noise, something neighbors think is only fair since the birds have been irritating them for so long.

"Well, when I wake up or come outside to look at my car, it's all covered in bird poop, and it's not nice. It doesn't look very nice," says High Street resident Rafael Mendoza.

Mendoza says because of the dried on bird droppings, he has to wash his car three times a week, making him even more anxious for the bird cannon to work its magic.
