Va. Soldier Dies After Collapsing during Training

July 26, 2010

The Army is investigating the death of a soldier who collapsed during physical training at a base in Virginia Beach.

A spokeswoman for the 7th Sustainment Brigade says 44-year-old Staff Sgt. Donahue B. Harris collapsed in front of the company area at Joint Expeditionary Base Fort Story around 8:15 a.m. Monday.

Sgt. 1st Class Kelly Jo Bridgwater says Harris was cooling down at the end of a run when he collapsed.

Harris was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Harris joined the Army in 1995 and was a section chief with the 241st Seaport Operations Co.
