California Woman Charged for Va. Man's Shooting Death

July 28, 2010

An Oakland woman has been charged with murder in the shooting death of a Virginia man who was killed after being robbed of $17.

Prosecutors also filed robbery charges against 33-year-old Althea Housley Tuesday.

Housley and her boyfriend, 24-year-old George Huggins, are suspected of demanding money from 45-year-old Jing Hong Kang of Fairfax, Virginia on July 18 in downtown Oakland. Kang had apparently returned to his rental car after getting his teeth cleaned ahead of an interview the next day at Google Inc.

Police say Huggins shot Kang three times for no reason after Kang handed over $17.

Housley was also charged Tuesday with robbery in a separate incident in June. Police say Huggins and Housley shot the male victim in that case, but he survived.
