Richmond Restaurant Worker Accused of Putting Bleach in Drinks

July 29, 2010

A worker at a Denny's restaurant in Richmond is accused of trying to poison two fellow employees by putting bleach in their drinks.

Two servers reported noticing something strange about their drinks, and told investigators they suspected their co-worker was involved.

Deputies charged Jermaine Johnson with altering a drink with intent to harm. Johnson is a cook at Denny's.

Investigators say Johnson admitted to putting a bleach-based cleaner in the drinks, but he did not give a motive.

"There didn't appear to be any bad blood between any of them," said Michael Timm with the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office.

The two employees were not harmed because they had only a sip of their drinks.
