One Dead After Amtrak Train Strikes Vehicle Near Williamsburg

One person has died after an Amtrak train hit a vehicle near Williamsburg.

James City County Fire Department spokesman Billy Apperson said the driver of the vehicle was killed in the accident around noon Saturday.

Apperson said two passengers of the train were transported to the local hospital for heat exhaustion. There were no other injuries among the 150 to 200 passengers on the train.

Authorities are not releasing the identity of the driver, who was alone in the vehicle.

Apperson said the train was headed to Newport News. The incident
occurred at the Hunts crossing in Norge.

Amtrak officials did not immediately return a call seeking
further details.
