August 2, 2010

St. Mary's County authorities have arrested two northern Virginia men for breaking into the St. Clement's Island Museum.

Sheriff's deputies responded to a burglary alarm at the museum at about 1 a.m. Friday. They found a window near the museum store had been broken and another window had been opened.

Authorities brought in their canine unit, which tracked down the two men hiding behind pillars at the end of a fishing pier. They arrested 28-year-old Didier Leomel Hernandez Fuentes and 25-year-old Mario Enrique Fuentez, both of Alexandria, Virginia. The men face burglary, destruction of property and trespassing charges.

The museum focuses on English history relating to religious and political issues of the 16th and 17th centuries.
