Prince William County Police say the man charged with drunken driving in a crash that killed a nun was in the United States illegally.
Police say 23-year-old Carlos Martinelly Montano, who is from Bolivia, was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement after a previous arrest, but he was released pending a deportation hearing.
Montano's car crossed the median in the area of Bristow Road and Wright Lane on Sunday morning and hit a car carrying three nuns from the Linton Hall School in Bristow. Sixty-six-year-old Sister Denise Mosier was pronounced dead on the scene, and two other nuns were critically injured.
Montano is charged with driving under the influence, involuntary manslaughter and felony driving on a revoked license.
