AAA: Record Number of Virginians to Hit the Road for Memorial Day Weekend

May 20, 2014

Memorial Day Weekend will soon be here, and AAA says it's going to be busy on Virginia roads.

According to AAA, nine out of ten people in the Commonwealth are expected to hit the road, making it the second highest Memorial Day travel weekend ever.

More drivers on the road means there are more chances for accidents, and AAA wants to encourage everyone to stay safe.

"Our highways across the nation and in Virginia will be loaded this weekend, and so will some of our drivers,” AAA Mid-Atlantic Managing Director Lon Anderson said. “It's estimated 400 of us will lose our lives this holiday weekend."

If you're one of those folks traveling by car, there is good news if you as you head to the pump: The average price of gas in Virginia is $3.64, that’s 19 cents below national average.
