A Richmond-area man has pleaded guilty to participating in a multistate document fraud ring.
Jose Sanchez-Herrera pleaded guilty to a single count of conspiracy to produce and transfer false identification documents. In a plea agreement with prosecutors Tuesday, nine other conspiracy and racketeering counts were dropped.
The 32-year-old Sanchez-Herrera faces up to 15 years in prison and deportation to Mexico. Sentencing is set for Oct. 29.
Sanchez-Herrera was among 30 men indicted for participating in a fake ID ring that prosecutors say protected its lucrative turf with intimidation, beatings and at least one murder in Arkansas. Sanchez-Herrera was not linked to the killing.
Only one of the defendants was convicted in a trial. Two are fugitives, and the rest have pleaded guilty.
