AMHERST, Va. (AP) - Amherst County deputies are rounding up more than 100 people suspected of drug crimes.
The sweep began early Sunday, Sheriff's Lt. Greg Turner says the suspects face a total of 243 charges.
Of the 111 people targeted by what authorities have dubbed "Operation Avalanche," 11 already have been charged and are awaiting trial in Amherst.
Many suspects were taken into custody during surveillance operations. A number of people are charged with selling drugs within 1,000 feet of school property.
