Arctic Blast Breaks Cold Records in Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Temperatures are inching up across Virginia a day after an arctic blast broke several cold records.

The National Weather Service reports that Richmond's 10 degrees on Tuesday morning broke a record set in 1988.

Other records broken Tuesday morning include Blacksburg, minus 5 degrees; Roanoke, 1 degree; Lynchburg, 2 degrees; and Danville, 7 degrees.

Wallops Island tied records on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Wednesday's 14 degrees tied a record set in 1970, while the 12 degrees reported Tuesday tied a record set in 1988.

Temperatures were a bit warmer on Wednesday morning. Richmond reported 14 degrees while Roanoke reported 11 degrees. It was 8 degrees in Lynchburg.

Utilities are working to restore electricity to about 1,100 customers around Virginia.
