June 1, 2013

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The 149th anniversary of the Battle of Cold Harbor is being marked with Union and Confederate re-enactors, firing demonstrations and talks on the battle.

Richmond National Battlefield Park is offering programs all weekend on the 1864 battle, which was fought from north of Richmond to Fredericksburg.

Over the course of nearly two weeks, the federal army lost more than 13,000 men, while Southern casualties are estimated at about 5,000.

During the weekend, park rangers and volunteers will talk about the battle and how it unfolded. They'll also discuss the impact on civilians.
