BOWLING GREEN, Va. (AP) - Prosecutors have dropped charges against a bus dispatcher stemming from a Virginia crash that killed four passengers.
The four involuntary manslaughter counts against Zhao Jian Chen were dismissed Tuesday at a hearing in Caroline County Circuit Court. He was set to go on trial on those charges following the May 31, 2011, crash on Interstate 95 north of Richmond.
Chen was charged after prosecutors said he told Sky Express driver Kin Yiu Cheung to continue driving after Cheun said he was too tired. Officials say new evidence called that claim into question.
Cheung's bus swerved off the highway, hit an embankment and overturned on its way from Greensboro, N.C., to New York.
Cheung faces a trial on involuntary manslaughter charges next week. The dispatcher has been subpoenaed to testify.
