Civil War Focus of Yorktown Holiday Weekend

Yorktown's Civil War history is being celebrated over the next three days with presentations on surveillance balloons, troop encampments and other demonstrations.
The Memorial holiday weekend event is being presented by Colonial National Historical Park and York County. The program began Saturday and concludes Monday. A wreath-laying ceremony is scheduled for Sunday at Yorktown National Cemetery.
Activities Saturday and Sunday also include Union and Confederate artillery, cavalry and infantry re-enactment units. They'll demonstrate military tactics and skills on the battlefield near the Yorktown Battlefield Visitor Center.
Also Saturday, demonstrations will show how balloons were used by both sides during the Civil War. They were especially prominent in the 1862 Peninsula Campaign.
