ROANOKE, Va. (AP) - A woman at Hollins University who's known to fellow students as the dormitory cleaning lady will join some of them in line at this weekend's commencement ceremonies.
For 12 years, Isabel Booth has juggled her custodial duties and taking classes at the Roanoke university. On Sunday, she'll receive her diploma in Spanish - nearly 50 years after dropping out of school in Mexico City to help support her family.
Hollins adult student program director Celia McCormick calls the 58-year-old Booth "an inspiration."
The Roanoke Times reports Booth isn't done learning. She plans to pursue a master's degree.
